Peace

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

All right, i believe most of you here know or have read before this psalm here. I myself have read it more than once. Well, what I’m gonna share today is "Peace". How many of you here want to have just a peaceful mind or perhaps a peace in the heart? In this urban life, all of us are packed with our own daily activities and responsibilities. It is not we do not like our work or our responsibilities, but at times we all do feel tired right? Both physically and mentally? I do not know about all of you out there but i do. I do feel tired of things in life once in a while. I do just wanna take a break in my life. You know chill here and there. For those who know me well enough, many of you will say, "Charis is a busy girl". Well, honestly she is not; at least he don't feels so. All right, once a while she does, she does feel that. But she is not under Satan's Youth ya, she is under God's Youth!! WOhoo..
Okay, back to the topic, peace. So how many of you can actually find peace in this hectic lifestyle? Well, it’s hard. Many a times, i wanted to just go up to a place for a day or two and relax my mind. I doubt, if i ever can do that. Why because firstly, i don’t think my parents will allow and the cost is cheap. Anyway, i still hope for it. =] .
All right, let me as k you a question, whenever you feel distress, tired, sad, emo, frust, angry, confused and etc where do you find your peace? Some of you might say , yes i also wanna go up to a place and relax my mind, some might say well i find peace in sleeping as we do not need to think anything. Some might say, go and watch a movie. How many of us here cna say, i can find peace in spending time with God. Spending time with God does not just mean reading His words. Spending time with God involves worshiping Him, praying to Him, composing songs or poem for Him.
Psalm 23 was one of my favourite psalm when ome to finding peace.

In verse 1 it says, the Lord is my shepherd i shall be in want.
What do you understand in this lil verse here? Well as for me, it tells me that God is my Guide. He is the one who leads me. And because of this i am not alone.

In verse 2 it says, He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. Note it is when we are in His presence we are in peace. Lying down in green pastures with quiet waters besides. Wow. Isn’t it amazing? *imagine* Often we wanted to go to the beach side and relax our mind but here in psalm 23, we can do more than that. God itself can give us the peace we want!

The psalmist continues that, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake. See, God restores our soul. When our souls are weak, burden God restore it! He heals it. He does not just restore it but He says that He will guide us in the righteous paths of life. Aren’t we thankful that God will lead us to the path? Aren’t we thankful that we are able to walk with the Light?
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me. I love this verse here, it often gives me a peace in my heart because it says, I fear no evil even I walk through the valley of death. At times in our life we walk through “shit”. It is like we are in a hot water and we feel like we make the biggest mistakes in life but here it says, I fear no evil for You are with me, Your road Your staff they comfort me. See, God is with us whenever we do and we go. So why must we be afraid? Claim his words when we feel afraid, for God will help us.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Verse 5 tells me that God is always ahead of us. He knows what will happen and what we are about to face. This shows that, He has already prepared us with this challenge of life and because He ahs prepared us, we are overflowing. In every situation we know what to do it is just whether do we follow His ways and His will or pour way and our will.

In the last verse it says, surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Indeed we all will dwell in the house of the Lord forever for there is no better place than to be in the house of God.

What happened to your seed?

Luke 8:4-15 And when a great crowd was gathering and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable: "A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up,it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7And some fell among thorns and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. 8And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold." As he said these things, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (V4-8)

The seed is the Word of God.

The seeds:
  1. Along the path.
    What happened to it?
Trampled underfoot, Birds of the air devoured it

    The meaning behind it?
People hear the Word but the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
  2. On the rock
    What happened to it?
It grew up and withered away because it has no moisture

    The meaning behind it?
People hear the Word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away
    .
  3. Among the thorns.
    What happened to it?
It grew up with it and choked it.

    The meaning behind it?
People hear the Word, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.
  4. Good soil
    What happened to it?
    Grew and yielded a hundredfold
    The meaning behind it?
People hear the Word, they hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.

What happened to your “seed” after hearing the Word of God?

"No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”
Matt. 8:16-18

Applying God’s word helps us grow. This is a principle of growth in physical, mental and spiritual life. For example, a muscle when exercised will grow stronger, but an unused muscle will grow weak and flabby. If you are not growing stronger, you are growing weaker; it is impossible for you to stand sill. How are you using what God has taught you?
